PARENT-ONLY APPOINTMENTS - BONDI BEACH & TELEHEALTH

Parent Consultations

Sometimes parents need expert guidance first - before their child ever walks through the door.

You don't always need to bring your child to get the support your family needs. Your child is too young to be involved. You don't want your child to hear your concerns. Our parent-only consultations give you dedicated time with our paediatric dietitian to ask questions, understand what's going on, and leave with a clear, practical plan.

IS THIS YOU?

You Have Questions. You Want Answers Before You Take The Next Step.

Parent consultations are for the mums, dads and carers who are carrying the weight of their child's eating challenges - and need a space to talk it through with someone who genuinely understands.

  • You're worried about your child's eating but not sure if it's serious enough to seek help

  • You want to understand what's happening before bringing your child to an appointment

  • You've tried strategies from Google, books and well-meaning relatives - and none of them have worked

  • Your child becomes distressed or anxious in new environments and you want to prepare carefully

  • You're not sure which service is right for your child and want guidance before booking

  • You want practical, evidence-based strategies you can start using at home straight away

  • You feel like you're the only one who hasn't "figured this out" - and you're exhausted

WHAT TO EXPECT

A Dedicated Hour With Our Paediatric Dietitian - Just For You.

A parent consultation is a full clinical appointment - just without your child in the room. It's designed for parents who want to come in first, gather information, ask the questions they've been sitting on, and understand their options before deciding on next steps.

This isn't a quick chat. It's a proper, focused session where we dig into your child's feeding history, your family's mealtime experience, and what's been tried before. We'll give you our honest clinical perspective and leave you with clear, practical strategies you can implement at home.

Some parents book a parent consultation as a first step before beginning a full course of paediatric feeding support. Others find that one or two parent sessions gives them exactly what they need to move forward confidently on their own.

Supporting Pillars:

  • No child required - come alone or with your co-parent or carer

  • Full clinical assessment of your child's feeding history

  • Practical, take-home strategies for mealtimes

  • Honest guidance on whether further support is recommended

  • Judgement-free - there are no silly questions here

HOW IT WORKS

Simple, Unhurried And Completely Focused On You

Your parent consultation runs for approximately 60 minutes. Come prepared to talk through your child's full eating history - the more detail you can share, the more useful the session will be. There's no judgement here. We hear from parents every day who feel embarrassed, guilty or confused about their child's eating - and we want you to know that none of this is your fault.

1

Your child's full picture (60 min)

We take a detailed history - eating patterns, growth, sensory profile, mealtime environment and what's already been tried.

2

Clinical perspective and clarity

We share our honest assessment of what may be driving the challenges and what the evidence says about how to address them.

3

Your plan and next steps

You leave with practical strategies for home and a clear recommendation on whether further support - for your child or for you as a family - would be beneficial.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR US?

Who Books A Parent Consultation

Parent consultations are suitable for any parent or carer with concerns about their child's eating - whether you're just starting to notice something or you've been worried for years.

Parents of fussy or selective eaters / Parents of children with suspected ARFID / Carers of neurodivergent children / Parents unsure whether to seek help / Parents wanting strategies before a child's first appointment / Co-parents wanting to get on the same page / Grandparents or carers in a primary care role / Parents of children with ASD or ADHD / Parents who have tried everything and need a reset

Note: You don't need a diagnosis, a referral or even a clear sense of what the problem is. If mealtimes are causing stress in your household, that's enough reason to reach out.

Private Appointments

Parent consultations are privately billed at our standard consultation rate. A gap fee applies if you're attending under a Medicare plan.

Rebates Available

  • Medicare (CDMP) - if your child has a Chronic Disease Management Plan issued by your GP, parent consultations may be claimable as part of your allied health sessions. Check with your GP to confirm eligibility.

  • Private health insurance - many Extras policies cover dietitian consultations for paediatric and family nutrition support. It's worth checking with your fund ahead of your appointment.

  • NDIS - if your child is an NDIS participant and parent coaching is part of their support goals, this may be fundable under Capacity Building. Contact us to discuss.

Note: Unsure what applies to your situation? Give us a call or send us a message before you book - we're happy to help you figure it out.

GOOD TO KNOW

Good To Know

No - that's the whole point. Parent consultations are designed to be attended by parents or carers only. Your child doesn't need to be present.

For many parents, one well-prepared session provides real clarity and a practical starting point. Others find it useful to follow up with a second parent session or to transition into a full course of support for their child. We'll give you an honest recommendation at the end of your first appointment.

Yes - and we encourage it where possible. Having both parents or carers in the room means everyone hears the same information and leaves with the same understanding. This makes home strategies far more consistent and effective.

It helps to bring a rough note of what your child typically eats across a week, any relevant medical history or previous reports, and a list of the things you've already tried. The more context you can share, the more useful the session will be.

That's a very natural next step - and we'll help you prepare for it. We can advise on how to introduce the idea to your child, what to expect from their first session and how to make it as low-pressure as possible.
